Bogleech: BOGLEECH HALLOWEEN COLLECTING BLOG - 2009!

  • Ryan · 4 months ago
Wow, these things start earlier every year. I NEED this snail, reckon postage to the UK'd be affordable?
  • scythemantis · 4 months ago
Well, if we're going by when I bought the snail, this one does start earlier, but I'm putting it up on the site later than any other year because I've still not found anything in stores worth getting! :0
  • Ryan · 4 months ago
Makes sense, there's some crazy stuff on that website! Notice they've sold out of the skinned piglet...

Perhaps you could do fifty-odd things for Cracked, then you can get that giant octopus?
  • scythemantis · 4 months ago
lol, maybe..but I think if I was gonna spend big bucks, I'd have to go for the more expensive ZOMBIE octopus!
  • scythemantis · 4 months ago
No idea, but you better hurry cause they make these things for a limited time, it seems! D:
  • lump · 4 months ago
Goodness, that's a large snail. Almost want one meself.
  • dodoman1 · 4 months ago
That one of the best things in the world. It needs a Leucochloridium variety.
  • Sabbot112 · 4 months ago
    :D
  • heavy_metal_yeti · 4 months ago
That might be the best ive ever seen. I would love to have that sitting on the grass by my door come Halloween time.
  • Kecen · 4 months ago
I wish this come in Leucochloridum colours.
  • JT1 · 4 months ago
I can't believe that someone other than Scythe thought of a zombie snail. I thought Escarghoul was the only one.
  • scythemantis · 4 months ago
It's a simple idea really, zombies everything is popular :)
  • JT1 · 4 months ago
There are plenty of simple ideas that only the most twisted minds discover.
  • garsh · 4 months ago
Yay! I checked the site tonight just to see if you were started on Halloween stuff yet, and the first thing I see is that glorious snail! Congratulations! Good look outdoing that though.
  • Sabbot112 · 4 months ago
YAY! The Halloween collectors blog is up again!!!
    I LOVE bogleech!
    (Gives me something to do!)
    :D
  • almightyjoey · 4 months ago
Oh, awesome! I was surprised you didn't get the grub when I saw the zombie snail. I was pretty happy you did, since I wanted to see more photos of it. I'm also incredibly jealous of those gummy candies.
  • scythemantis · 4 months ago
Yeah, the snail took priority but basically cost me almost a whole paycheck, so I had to wait a while to get the grub.
  • saturndjinni · 4 months ago
Oh my god I want that gummy tentacle ;u; Things like that are just way too beautiful to be eaten.
  • dodoman1 · 4 months ago
I was expecting you to get that mutant octopus from FrightProps...

Those gummi things are especially hilarious. Who would have the heart to eat somthing so amazing?
  • scythemantis · 4 months ago
The mutant octopus is nearly 2,000 dollars....I've never even spent that much to buy a car D:

The smaller octopuses may be neat and all but not really unusual enough that I feel the need to pay nearly 100 for them :/
  • Saucerman · 4 months ago
This is Bill from Radiation-Scarred Reviews (radiation-scarred-reviews.blogspot.com) -- You know, when I saw the grub on the website, I said to myself, "Scythe's going to have that before the season's over."

Also, those are the most amazing gummies I've ever seen. I must find some.
  • Zach · 3 months ago
Man, I wait all year for this Halloween-awesomeness. Thanks for bringing it again.
  • ScutigeraColeoptrata · 3 months ago
Nice to see the return of the horrifying Halloween Collection this year! The zombie snail and the giant grub are amazing, and the giant snail is especially amazing considering the contest Bogleech just had.

I also share your feelings about gummy candy; they're too cool looking to eat, and I wish I could just keep them as small collectibles. Ah well.

The B movie gummy monsters also crack me up. Yes, the centipede shall inherit the Earth!
  • danielle · 3 months ago
Those gummi things look yummy and incredibly badass!
  • Randy · 3 months ago
Those glowy ghost things? I have, like, 4. They're just too cute!
  • SmashedPumpkin · 3 months ago
I love the green snowglobe and the "see no evil" guy.
  • Pirate Fancypants · 3 months ago
Me and my best friend frequent dollar stores, where we often buy the oddest gummy things we can find.

One time we bought gummy eyeballs and a giant, supposedly-blueberry flavored rat.

You don't want to eat these things. Trust me. They tasted like... well, they tasted like eyeballs and a giant rat respectively. Not blueberry at all. I ate the rat's tail and then as we went down the freeway, stuck it to the outside of my friend's windshield. It stayed stuck for two days, even on the road. We never noticed it fall off. RIP, disgusting rat.
  • Sabbot112 · 3 months ago
How much did the jack in the box cost! I <3 it!

    Where did you buy it?
  • scythemantis · 3 months ago
Every Halloween item is shown under the name and date of the store it was found (so Walgreens for both the paper bag and the Jack in the Box)....I mention the price in the description of it, too :)
  • saturndjinni · 3 months ago
    Oh my god that Jack in the box is amazing ;u;
  • l_Rad_l · 3 months ago
Oh man Target has the greatest Halloween stuff. I got an awesome shirt one yaer with these cartoony spiders all over it. It was like my favorite shirt until my mom cut it up for rags :(
  • Robert Leonard · 3 months ago
I saw the mummy cat at my local K-Mart, that wasn't all I saw they had one of those motion activated hands inside a candy dish, but it was Nightmare on Elm Street based so it had Freddy's clawed hand, And at my local Walmart they have life size gummy hands and feet with crunchy candy bones inside. And from the same maker, a gummy two headed snake that would probably be over a foot long if unrolled. By the way could you go back to one of your posts from 2006 and fix the sounds for the Dead Ed, I loved that halloween item when I saw it and I never got it I would love to hear all the sounds again.
  • Strange Kid · 3 months ago
You're really busting them out this year, loving the list so far! I know Charlie Brown cautioned us all about the commercialism of the holidays but Halloween knick-knacks are simply to die for... sorry.
Seriously, though, not since Slugs (1988) has a giant rubber gastropod covered in blood been so damn cool!
  • Freezair · 3 months ago
OH MY GOD THAT JACK-IN-THE-BOX. I want one. So, sssoooo bad. I want to hide in an innocuous place in my room and wait for people to ask me about it and then show it off and make them wonder and then BAM HAHAHA CREEPY CLOWN BIZNATCH. ....Uh.

Also, I have a feeling Thrift Horror would really, um, "appreciate" it.
  • Freezair · 3 months ago
Oh and ALSO. I don't know about the Walgreens where you are, but near me, they have these animated decorations which are a pair of rats gnawing on a rubber heart, which "beats" and thrashes the rats around at the touch of a button. Seems up your alley!
  • Danielle · 3 months ago
This is in connection with your gummi bug things, I at CVS saw these HUGE gummi tarantula and centipede candies who were labeled CREEPY CRAWLERS, and the logo is remarkably sim, ilar to the popular 90s toy, tho i am unsure if that is what these candies actually are related to, or if thats justa seasonal title. But your centipede guy looks like he just got cloned from mine, or maybe vice versa. My centipede was black with day-glo bright green and yellow details on it, same with the tarantula.
  • Freezair · 3 months ago
Is it sad that as soon as you said that, the "Cree-ee-ee-py CRAWLERS!" jingle hopped into my head?
  • Chainerman · 3 months ago
I simply must give my thanks to you Mr. Wojcik for alerting me to the existence of the delightfully mad witch you picked up at Target. Since the moment I saw it in your blog, I swore to find one for myself. I now happily have my own (as well as a Halloween countdown plaque and tissue box, both featuring the same witch) and I'm joyous as can be. You've alerted me to other wonderful goodies in the past, including the Magnificent Maggot, and after this latest treasure you've shared with us, I had to voice my appreciation. Thank you for all the trinkets you've shared with us, and for all the other weird and wonderful articles on your site.
  • scythemantis · 3 months ago
I'm so glad to be an informant! And I should look for that tissue box...I always save those. I usually cut off their art and stick it to my wall with countless other cards and packages.
  • Freezair · 3 months ago
Is it just the Targets in my realm, or does it seem like Target has not one but TWO sets of corporate shills this year? In addition to the ghosties and the original monsters (Who seem to be an armless green demon, a legless orange one-eyed thing, and a tentacle creature with enough arms to make up for everyone else), they also seem to be pimpin' with plush toy line Skelanimals. Given that I'd previously associated said toys with sort of the artsy Goth scene, I don't know if this is more or less surreal than Domo.
  • scythemantis · 3 months ago
A little less surreal to me personally; I'm glad they have original stuff as well this time!
  • Freezair · 3 months ago
Fair enough. At least the Skelanimals didn't earn their fame via vaguely inappropriate Internet memes.
  • Strange Kid · 3 months ago
Seems as though they're targeting several different demographics this year. There's the Skeleminals, Target's own shils, and the Miami Ink inspired skulls and decor. Even Publix has gotten into this year with their own little creatures.
  • scythemantis · 3 months ago
Oh? Haven't checked out Publix, I better stop by!
  • Strange Kid · 3 months ago
The Tongue-Eyed Monsters are freakin awesome! Makes me wish I had a tongue-eye. I mean seriously, how awkward would french kissing be anyway?
  • SmashedPumpkin · 3 months ago
    Hey, I've seen the brain-alien dog toy at the Humane Society where I volunteer. Sadly, It was torn open within a week, which is the fate of all but the sturdiest toys there. ;_;
  • Freezair · 3 months ago
Waaait, the tags on all the chocolate-loving cyclopses at Target I know of (or at least, the plushies) say that the chocolate-loving cyclops is named Schmorg! (Which... I gotta admit, I sorta like that name better.) Is it some sort of disparity... thing?

(I'll definitely be grabbing at least one plushie of those guys, though...)
  • scythemantis · 3 months ago
Weird, I got the name "munch" off the set of cards I link to D:
  • Strange Kid · 3 months ago
I found the Crypt Ghoul screecher at Target as well and its a personal fav. So much more detailed than a F13 Jason I bought from Party City at twice the size and price point. I guess it just goes to show that bigger isn't always better.

Ok, seeing the clowns painted on the tin box was really enough to send my hair on end. Then, I scrolled down and saw the hideous being inside. Trying to navigate away from the image quickly I clicked under it thinking it was a comment section. Sending me to a youtube link was f***ing evil. Kudos. My relationship with clowns is EXACTLY like my relationship with my mother, thanks for making me craps my pants, now, don't ever do that again.
Keep it real, keep it scarey, and if you can, keep it real scarey. -Nay
  • scythemantis · 2 months ago
Some of my best friends are clowns by profession! They are just as pleased to scare some people as amuse others XD
  • Lee · 2 months ago
That mummy DOES look like Rodney Dangerfield! Also, the Frankenstein's Monster screecher reminds me of Peter Boyle. Not so much in "Young Frankenstein" as in "Everybody Loves Raymond."
  • Lee · 2 months ago
And while I'm free-associating, your new rubber mummy reminds me of Large Marge.
  • TastesLikeBRAAIINNSS · 2 months ago
Your yearly collecting blog never ceases to amuse me :)
  • sylvieonabun · 2 months ago
My God, this is probably about the third (could it be fourth?) year in a row where I've been randomly perusing the interwebs, thinking about the impending Halloween season, and suddenly remember, BOGLEECH! Then I proceed to spend the next HOWEVER much time it takes to read every new addition to your endearing collection of Halloween randomness and DYING of laughter. Like, tears-rolling-down-my-face, cannot-breathe, need-to-emit-a-strangely-agonized-sounding-squeal-to-communicate-this-hilarity-to-no-one-in-particular kind of laughter. I think it's partly joy in finding someone else who loves the sheer variety of random shit that can be found in stores in this, the most wonderful of seasons. Also comfort in knowing I'm not the only one who'll spend money I may or may not have to procure these superfluous things. Mostly it's because your commentary is funny as shit. Please never stop buying and blogging the most amusing crap on earth.
  • ScutigeraColeoptrata · 2 months ago
This is shaping up to be a great year! I love the candy brain alien invader, and the cauldron monster is also great. The only other cauldron monster I can think of is that thing in Willow, which wasn't on screen for very long but left quite an impression in my young mind.

Looking forward to the next batch!
  • scythemantis · 2 months ago
Well, the candy brain invader and cauldron are from years ago, like I said they're part of a "look back" at older stuff, because this year HASN'T been at all productive :/
  • ScutigeraColeoptrata · 2 months ago
Hmm, I think I would rather pretend that things are going well. There are still some great new ones though, like the big headed mummy.

It's a shame I can't take any pictures of some of the stuff over here, but who knows maybe that problem will be resolved.
  • Strange Kid · 2 months ago
The Spooky Spector squiddie is the best addition yet, Leech. I am so drawing this for your contest this year!
I couldn't find much on K&K with the exception of this: http://www.kksales.com/kksales/catalog/?functio...

Its seems they have different sets of spooky characters, but there site hasn't been updated in awhile.
  • smotemotem · 2 months ago
My local Wal-Mart has some Spooky Spector toys in its crane game, but most of them are pretty disappointing. There's a deranged cat and a bat that vaguely resembles Golbat. I can't recall much about them, but the ones I saw were way less cool than the octopus.
  • scythemantis · 2 months ago
Yeah, I've seen a few since and they're fairly cool, but none approach the octopus :)
  • Name · 2 months ago
Wow, those monster/hand gummies were found at a Walgreens? I wish all 6 of the ones around me had something of the sort.
  • scythemantis · 2 months ago
Aw sad, I thought all Walgreens stocked identical stuff :(

And here I was thinking you hadn't updated the collection blog since August! I'm so wrong at times. What I'd give for a mid-October shopping trip to America, the fun would be had and all that.
  • danielle · 2 months ago
Gawd almighty, that Donna head would have traumatized my brain for decades had I seen it glowing in a window on halloween as a kid!! Pretty awesome now though.
  • Freezair · 1 month ago
This is a very small, strange note! But! I discovered a gummi skeleton all by his lonesome in a dormmate's Halloween candy dish. There were other, more appetizing candies in the bowl, but the skeleton came back with me, due to his cool packaging:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v46/Freezair/...

Dig that swingin' skeleton! Now I want to figure out what sort of candy multipack he came from.
  • dodoman1 · 1 month ago
    Happy birthday!
  • saturndjinni · 1 month ago
There must be something wrong with me, because I find 'Gob' adorable. :D

The first pic kinda makes him look like a little chibi Cthulu... cept with only two tentacles on his face... but yeah.
  • Lee · 1 month ago
Regarding Gob's identity, my vote goes for Podling from "The Dark Crystal"...or maybe something from "Fraggle Rock."
