    Mouth-watering crap hats!

I like the description of the narrow-mouthed toad/Oklahoma brown tarantula symbiosis. (Is there a difference between symbiosis and mutualism?)
  • scythemantis · 6 months ago
I think symbiosis is the broader term, while mutualism is one variety...I'm not sure!

I think symbiosis is when you have a parasite that helps you.

Symbiosis is the broader term. There are 2 kinds of symbiosis: mutualism and commensalism. Mutualism is where both parties benefit. Commensalism is where one benefits and the other doesn't, but the other isn't hurt either. Then of course there's parasitism, which isn't a form of symbiosis and is when one party benefits while the other is hurt. There's something of a grey area between commensalism and parasitism depending on how "hurt" is defined.

Interesting stuff. I only knew about one of these symbiont circles before. That comment about "Muppet Babies" made me L.O.L.

I had no idea creatures like scaleworms existed! I'd only imagine a worm like that to be in Sci-Fi.
There are much more interesting creatures in real life than I ever presumed.
